Sanding Belt Splices
STANDARD BUTT SANDING BELT SPLICE
This is our standard sanding belt splice for narrow cloth and paper belts unless otherwise specified. The ends of the belt are butted together and joined on the under side with high strength tape. This allows the belt to run smoothly in either direction. Various tapes are used depending on the grit of the belt and the application involved. Standard tape width is 3/4", but 1" is also used on certain operations.
PRO-LOK SANDING BELT SPLICE
Pro-Lok is similar to our standard butt splice, except the ends of the belt are cut and joined in a zig-zag configuration. This also allows the belt to run smoothly, without hinging, in either direction. This is our standard splice for glass belts, Value Line portable belts, surface conditioning belts (1"-16"), and belts for Hetran type machines.
LAP SANDING BELT SPLICE
For a Lap splice, grain is removed from www.avalonpharmacy.com the top of one of the belt ends and the ends are overlapped. This is used on cloth belts, only if specified. No grain is removed from the top of the splice, however this can be partially removed as required.
PRO-LAP SANDING BELT SPLICE
This is a very narrow (5/16"), smooth running splice for paper belts (narrow or wide). This is used in critical operations, where tape joints can leave a mark on the material. This splice is smooth enough to be run bi-directional.
PRO-FORM SANDING BELT SPLICE
This splice actually has the tape on the face of the belt. This allows a bump free operation on very conforming wood applications where a non-marking finish is critical.
SCALLOPED EDGE BELTS
This zig-zag effect on the side of the belt allows the belt to conform quickly and easily to intricate configurations. This is most effective for final polishing and finishing operations on metal. There is an additional 5% charge for belts produced in this manner.
